The Christmas Wreath
Grandpa was sitting quietly in his shed with a pile of garden material, when his two young twin grandchildren bounded in after a long day at school. ‘What are you doing ?’ they chorused together.
‘Oh just making a Christmas Wreath’. He replied. ‘I shall hang it on my front door as a sign that Love is here, Love grows here and Love never ends here.’
‘Oh’, said Tommy, the eldest twin. ‘I thought we showed love with hearts.’
‘Oh no’, replied grandpa. ‘Love is round. It is a circle. It has no beginning and no end. It just goes on and on, passed from one person to another, from old to young, from generation to generation.’
‘Why are you decorating it with red?’ Asked Imogen.
‘Because,’ said grandpa, ‘red represents a smile.’
‘And the green?’
‘The green represents good deeds.’
‘So’, said Tommy, ‘the wreath is a circle of love that never stop, with green representing the good deeds we have done, and red for happy smiles.’
‘Quite’, said grandpa, ‘Now just watch what happens when I hang the wreath on our front door. ‘
The children watched all evening. They say people hurrying home from work who glanced at the door and their tired face lit up with smiles. The pensioners passing by exchanged pleasantries with grandpa and a small crying baby stopped demanding the moment his eyes saw the pretty red and green wreath. ‘See’, said grandpa. ‘A wreath reminds us all that Love is here. Love is always Growing and Love never ends.
So be sure to make or buy your Christmas wreath this year.
